Workshops

Workshops and presentations are the tools we use to sow the seeds of city farming in peoples hearts and minds. Typically they are ways in which we share learning and resources in a limited time frame.
We conduct several open workshops at different times of the year, as well as some tailored for children and specific groups who invite/ request us.
A few of our workshops are hosted for our volunteers to further their own learning journeys in city farming.

Here are some of the various topics on which we share learning...

1. Building and using Amrut Mitti ( a nutrient rich soil) :
This is the most important aspect of urban farming for us. Without Amrut Mitti it is difficult to aspire for healthy, productive urban farms. As Amrut Mitti takes four months to make and needs loads of dry leaves, these workshops are held only between months of November- April.

2. Seed sowing, transplanting, companion planting:
Some of the most common questions we encounter as we start our experiments with growing food are... What do we grow? When? How do we sow seeds? When do we transplant? What care should we take? What kind of containers do we need?

3. Pruning
Once we start growing our fruit and veggies, we realise they have a will of their own. Sometimes they need to be pruned to create a better canopy and make them productive. Each fruit tree has its own physiology and pattern of growth. Taking this into account natueco methods have specific pruning techniques for different varieties.

4. Building trellises:

A few plants like creepers for veggies, especially in monsoons, need to be grown on trellises. Plants like tomato also need trellises to grow and produce fruit optimally. In theses sessions we do hands-on building of different types of trellises.
5. Designing principles for your urban farm

Over a period of time while practicing terrace farming we have learnt a few ways in which to design terrace farms. These designs take into account permaculture and natueco concepts of harvesting maximum light, multi cropping, using bio diversity, ease of carrying out gardening functions etc...
